How are you sleeping?
If you are one of the six percent of the American population who have difficulty falling and staying asleep, suffer from breathing disturbances, periodic leg movement disorder or parasomnias such as sleepwalking, then you know all too well that a good night's sleep is an elusive dream.
Sleep disorders can be caused by many factors, from daily stress to lifestyle changes. The effect of sleep deprivation influences one's physical, social and emotional health, while impacting how that person thinks, works, interacts, drives, and performs just about every other normal activity throughout their day. If left untreated, disrupted sleep can cause high blood pressure, weight gain, impotency, headaches and can even increase the risk of a heart attack or stroke.
Fast Facts
How do I deal with a loved one who snores.
Many families have at least one member who is known for their snoring. Besides distracting bed partners or roommates, chronic snoring can be a sign of a more serious condition. It can interfere with the sleep quality of the snorer and anyone in earshot. There is also mounting evidence that it may lead to other medical conditions such as heart disease.
